The Author

Dr. J. Landowsky

The author, whose father – a Colonel in the Russian Imperial Army and later shot by Bolsheviks in 1917, was a doctor interested in the effects of drugs on the human organism. He was forced by the NKVD (secret police) to carry out various jobs and witness questionings, tortures, and the most terrible happenings and crimes. He secretly kept notes of what he had witnessed and this booklet documents the drug-induced questioning of former Ambassador of France, C.G. Rakovsky during the trials of the Trotzkyists in the USSR (under Stalin) in 1938, when he was tried together with Bukharin, Rykoff, Yagoda, Karakhan, Dr. Levin and others.
