The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is based on the detailed visions of Our Lord’s passion and death as seen by Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), a German Augustinian nun, and recorded by Clemens Brentano, a prominent literary figure of the day. This book has been inspiring thousands since it first appeared in 1833; it is one of the most used texts for Lenten devotion, and most notably, it was the inspiration for Mel Gibson’s film The Passion of the Christ.
